Who are we?

The University of Oklahoma's Student Chapter ACM is proud to present Hacklahoma, its first inaugural hackathon! Students from all backgrounds, majors, and experience levels will come together to collaborate on projects that include mobile applications, virtual reality, and digital assistants in 24 hours. Anyone with an interest in technology comes to learn, build, and share their creations!


Why is this happening?

Hacklahoma was created to kindle creativity and innovation with the mission to improve Oklahoma’s tech community. We want to make Oklahoma one of the largest places for innovation and technology and to inspire students achieve the impossible.


When? Where?

For our first hackathon, we are expecting 250 passionate students from all over the world to come together at Devon Energy Hall at the University of Oklahoma in Norman on March 3rd and 4th, 2018!





FAQ

What is a hackathon?

A hackathon is best described as an “invention marathon”. Anyone who has an interest in technology attends one to learn, build & share their creations over the course of a weekend in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. - MLH

Who can attend Hacklahoma?

Any university student 18 and older of any major can participate as a hacker!

Can beginners attend?

Of course! We accept people of all skill levels! We'll have workshops before and during the event! We'll also have plenty of mentors! Hackathons are a learning experience! :D

Do I need to be an OU student?

Nope! Any student from any school is eligible to apply for Hacklahoma!

Do I have to be a programmer?

No, you don't need any experience in programming to attend! Regardless of major or experience, we welcome all students who are genuinely interested in learning and technology.

Do I need a team in order to participate?

Nope! You can always go solo if that's your style, otherwise you are allowed to have up to four people at the maximum. We will have team formation sessions in the future, which we'll announce on our social media and email!

Do I have to pay to attend Hacklahoma?

Nope! Hacklahoma is free for everyone. All meals, snacks, and refreshments are also free!

But what if I'm not a student?

You are more than welcome to participate as a volunteer or mentor! If you are interested in this, contact us at team@hacklahoma.org. We will have a sign up form available soon!

Can I start working before Hacklahoma starts?

No, hackers are not allowed to work on their projects before Hacklahoma's official hacking period. You are, however, allowed to come up with ideas, plan, and prepare!

What should I bring?

Bring your school ID for registration! We also recommend bringing laptops, any chargers, cell phones, a pillow, a sleeping bag, toiletries, an extra set of clothes, and a refillable water bottle. You could also bring an extension cord or additional hardware (which will need to be approved) for your hack just in case.

What should I not bring?

Any weapons, drugs, alcohol, and anything illegal is strictly prohibited. If you're not sure about bringing something, please ask us about it in advance!

Will you be offering travel reimbursement?

Yes, we are offering a limited total amount of travel reimbursement of up to $25 a driver! To be eligible for reimbursement, hackers need to submit a project on DevPost and be present at the hackathon.

Where will I sleep?

We'll have a dedicated nap room during the event!

Any other rules?

Everyone is required to follow the MLH Code of Conduct and the OU Student Conduct.
